A collage from the large “Moving Cabinet” series is a variation on the theme of sentimentality and cruelty, as well as the hypocrisy of bourgeois values. The artist used printed images to create the interior, which includes a chair and sideboard of the style of Louis XVI, a fern in a Chinese vase and candelabra. Lovers are depicted “cutaway” with illustrations from a medical textbook. The impression of the picture and the explicit message of the plot about marital infidelity through such a presentation are truly ruthless. The series had 66 paintings, but each was conceived as an independent work of art.
