In the works of David Salle, many motifs are periodically repeated. So, the artist used a couple of real chairs located at the top of the composition in several of his works, including the picture “Miner”. In this work, the chair seats are severely broken; this symbolizes blind aggression and anger. A pessimistic and anxious mood is also created by the image of a miner – a gaunt and exhausted man. The figure is deliberately made in black and gray tones. In the second part of the composition, the artist arranged several bright fragmentary images superimposed on each other, which are intertwined, as if these are superficial thoughts that suddenly arise in the consciousness of the author.
