Carlo Carrà

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The collection of Mattioli (Milan, Italy).

The canvas, which the artist painted after his trip to Paris, is considered one of the best paintings by Carlo Carra since the artist skillfully combined elements of futurism and cubist techniques. The Milan Gallery was a local attraction, which was the vibrant center of the city’s life in the early twentieth century. The author’s desire to convey the noisy life of the city streets, the energy of the crowd and its movement is entirely consistent with the ideology of the Futurists. At the same time, one feature is observed: a large number of planes overlapping each other and a silver-blue palette tending to become monochrome indicate a direct influence of Cubists, in particular, P. Picasso and G. Braque.
