description

Mediums: china.
Location: the Museum of Modern Art of San Francisco, San Francisco, the USA.

The artist depicted the icon of popular music, Michael Jackson, in the most luxurious way. The sculpture of the singer with his beloved monkey (which, by the way, is a symbol of wealth) is full-length and is almost wholly covered with gilding. The deliberately elegant performance indicates that the artist neglects all the rules of good taste. There is no hint of irony in this work – it is just an image of the famous person who looks solemn and at the same time ridiculous in its gilding and frozen pose. In 2001, one of three copies of porcelain Michael Jackson was sold at Sotheby’s auction for $ 5.6 million, creating a sensation in art circles.
