Mazars under the moon

author

Alexander Nikolaevich Volkov

description

Mediums: oil, tempera, canvas.
Location: the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan (Tashkent).

Volkov painted this picture at a time when, using synthesis at the junction of Art Nouveau, Expressionism and Cubism, he was looking for his plastic language. He devoted half a year to studying in Kyiv and half a year to working in Turkestan, which became the primary source of inspiration for him. In one of the most bright early works, the plot attracts attention: he rarely painted landscapes, where the architectural motif played a dominant role. The canvas already has its own colouristic and rhythmic systems. He named the surviving early things (the author destroyed most of his paintings as not meeting his qualifications) “My Golden Fund”.
