The researchers failed to find out who was the model for this painting; the portrait is one of the archetypes of the work of Leonor Fini. The thin and dark Nubian is surrounded by curious masks and faces of Persian cats, the artist’s favorites. The young man is serious and sexy, although is not completely naked. The swirling dark brown background with a flash of alarming red color makes the character mysterious. The work was first presented to the public at the Galeria dell’ala Napolianica in Venice in 1952.
