A shaky and half-broken construction, in which a large figure of a person is placed, looks little like a room. However, there is a window in it, behind which tiny little people panicky running somewhere are seen. Despite the presence of the window, the box looks like a hopeless dead end. Fear and despair are conveyed by the artist both in the character’s gaze and in the characteristic gesture of both hands covering half of the face. The rich antique folds of his antique clothes look strange in this context – perhaps this is an allusion to the image of lonely Diogenes in his philosophical barrel.
