In this painting relating to the Parisian period of the work of the British painter, we can trace the apparent influence of Fauvist principles and methods. It is also seen in the bold, uneven outlines of the depicted objects and the use of colours indicating the shapes. The artist created the perspective that Fauvists usually neglected by means of scaling – the largest is a lonely tree, which is both the compositional center of the work and its semantic accent.
