1935
Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The London Tate Modern Gallery (the UK).
Briefly about the painting:
From 1934 to 1936, Andre Masson created a series of the paintings of Spanish landscapes, when he lived in Catalonia, including the village of Ibdes in Aragon. These, as the author himself wrote, fully recognizable landscapes have an obvious element of fantasy. Fiery roosters in the foreground represent double surrealistic images. They are organically woven into the landscape, made in the same glowing colors. In the background, the mountains and the village are represented as a crocodile.
