House the Light-house

author

Sir Roland Algernon Penrose

description

Mediums: gouache, collage.
Location: Tate Gallery (London, Great Britain).

In the last years of his life, the artist created many collages, which he made only for himself, not presenting them to people. In the year of the creation of this painting, Penrose spent a lot of time at the resort Trouville in France and the impression from this vacation became the basis of the collage. To create the objects, the artist used local postcards, depicting the sea, sand beaches and luxury yachts, although the photos themselves were of little concern to the artist. As in many previous works, he used only their structure and tonality to create his own images, which originated in his rich imagination. A closer look at “House the Light-house” allows you to notice obvious hints of feminine nature, mystery and sexuality.
