Having created an almost monochrome three-dimensional painting called “Mandolin”, Yermylov started creating colourful wooden reliefs. The head of the Harlequin is more like a musical instrument (lacking only strings) or a mechanical toy. The mask image is only guessed by the name of the work. The plane diagonally divided into rather large segments gives a new understanding of constructivist harmony. It is no accident that the artist’s reliefs were transported behind the scenes to the London avant-garde exhibition in 1973 – Yermylov once again had great success with foreign art critics and visitors.
