Grid Mounted

author

Josef Albers

description

Mediums: glass, metal, and wire.
Location: The Josef & Anni Albers Foundation (Bethany, Connecticut, the USA).

At the beginning of his creative career, Josef Albers mainly created stained-glass windows and other decorative works of glass. At the same time, he always paid much attention to the colours of his paintings, experimenting with their different combinations. This tendency was reflected in the painting “Grid Mounted”, which is a composition of coloured glass squares on a wire grid. Despite the seeming randomness, the arrangement of all elements is carefully thought out and balanced according to the author’s idea.
