description

Private collection.

Acrylic on canvas.

Kenneth Noland’s paintings of the second half of the 60s are horizontal compositions consisting of several multi-coloured stripes. Like in his earlier works, the artist used colour as the basis, enhancing the effect due to the large size of the canvas. At the top of the picture, the stripes become narrower, creating a semblance of perspective that goes far from the viewer. The artist, however, urged viewers in no case to consider his “striped” paintings as minimalist landscapes. In one of his interviews, Kenneth Noland said that the content of his art is pure colour and form, nothing more.
