Forever

This is an installation of interconnected bicycles mounted in a circle. Bicycle is a common and affordable most vehicle in China; it is the most mundane everyday item. However, the artist managed to make a spectacular composition out of bicycles, attracting the attention of any passerby. In the first installation in 2003, Ai Weiwei used 42 bikes; in 2012, the artist made a figure of 3144 units to create a renewed composition in Toronto. This composition, illuminated by colourful lanterns, has become even more spectacular and memorable.
