In the 30s, the artist created works close to the classics, inspired by the novelty aesthetics and fully approved by the Italian political regime. Sironi often created wall paintings decorating walls of public buildings in Rome and Milan; this painting, with its symmetry and monumentality, resembles a fresco. The artist found a special harmony in the strict simplicity of the family scene and conveyed it using simple and even primitive expressive means. Through his work, he tried to express the importance of true life values, despite the rough political events in the country marked by significant social transformations, and the tragedy of the war.
