Briefly about the painting:

One of the significant works of the early period of the artist’s career is created in an expressionist manner – it has a lot of movement and emotions. The picture, in which the author found common ground for drama and expression, laid the foundation for an interest in tense conflicts of life, in particular, in the theme of drug abuse. Even such an event as a big fire, the reflections of which are visible in the upper windows of the building, cannot bring the young man in the foreground out of the deep trance. He does not notice either the danger threatening everyone, or the screams of people running past.
