Dutch Interior III

author

Joan Miró i Ferrà

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, the USA).

The series “Dutch Interiors” occupies a special place in the artist. In search of his style, Joan Miro went to the Netherlands in 1928, where he visited museums and studied the works of great Dutch artists of the 19th century. He created his original interpretations of the paintings of the masters, one of which is “Dutch Interior III”, inspired by the “Dressing Woman” by Jan Stan. The painting, fully consistent with the plot and composition of the original work, is made using the modern language of colour and form. The contrast of the old and the new in the work demonstrates how much art changed in recent decades.
