This painting was made in a caricature style. Long faces of the characters are typical of Modigliani’s style. Their small mouths, lack of gaze and pointed noses are the result of the artist’s fascination with African masks and sculpture. Among the paintings of the artist, there are many portraits, including couples. In this work, the lady represents the aesthetic ideal of Modigliani: she has black hair and pale skin.
