In his works, Gerhard Richter often uses elements that seem real but have nothing to do with real objects when watched closely. The picture “Clouds” gives the viewer associations with the sky, but the abstract elements in the upper part of the canvas prove that this is just an appearance and a visual illusion. There is no sky, no clouds, or something else from real life; it is just a set of colour combinations that exist independently. Obviously, Richter gave such a name to the work not by chance, but to indicate the person’s habit of looking for familiar shapes in everything and giving rational explanations of things, even though they are not needed.
