Briefly about the painting:

The theme of card games was popular in French painting of the first third of the 20th century, and in the early 1920s. The painting can be seen as a reflection of the post-war return of European countries to peaceful life. The entire space of the picture is filled in the spirit of Cubism while the artist depicts a lot of hands holding cards; the players themselves “do not fit” in the plot. The author does not use geometric forms characteristic of the style. Like in other works of this period, the palette is laconic – shades of light grey and light brown harmoniously combine.
