Josef Albers

description

Mediums: oil, board.
Location: The Josef & Anni Albers Foundation (Bethany, Connecticut, the USA).

One of the first paintings by Albers, which he created after moving to the United States. Together with his wife, Anni Albers, who was a textile artist, he made several trips to Mexico, studying the art of pre-Columbian America. The monumental architecture of the ancient Indians and the ideal geometric shapes of their structures greatly impressed the artist. In the paintings of that period, the artist focused on the expressive capabilities of such elements as angle, parallel lines and two-sided symmetry in the composition. At the same time, Albers did not forget about the meaning of colour, using it in his paintings as one of the main components.
