After his second exhibition at the Tony Shafrazi Gallery in New York, Keith Haring met Andy Warhol, the most famous representative of Pop art at the time, and very soon became his friend. The artist repeatedly painted Warhol but most often as Disney’s Mickey Mouse surrounded by dollar bills. The combination of these images gives a very accurate description of such a concept as pop art, combining simplicity, colourfulness and the pursuit of wealth. Made using the silk-screen printing method, these images were actively sold at the artist’s shop. Keith Haring put his signature on many copies, emphasizing that art is accessible – everyone can afford to buy a work of a famous artist.
