1890
Mediums: pigmented beeswax, metal fittings on a wooden base.
Location: The National Gallery of Art in Washington (the USA).
The composition of the sculpture resembles the construction of a painting made in 1895 using the technique of pastel and entitled “Morning bathing”. The nude model stands heavily on one leg, slightly bent for stability, and vigorously turns her head, examining the foot of the other high-raised leg. Complex sculptures attracted the sculptor, and he created another copy of this figure of green wax. In 1921, caster Herbard, under a contract with heirs of Degas, made a bronze copy of this and other works – these copies are now in museums around the world.
