description

Mediums: painted wood, plexiglass.
Location: the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC (the USA).

One of the earliest works of Donald Judd in the form of the abstract sculpture is made of wood and painted with bright red paint. The simplified three-dimensional object is installed directly on the floor. Its rich red colour clearly outlines its shape and gives the composition an emotional expression. In this work, Donald Judd first applied a Plexiglas insert, which became one of the primary materials he used throughout his career.
