Allan Kaprow

description

Mediums: paper, metal foil, parts of paintings, oil paint, chalk, linen, cardboard.
Location: the Kunst Ludwig Museum of Modern Art, Vienna (Austria).

The collage Baby is a collection of a wide variety of objects and materials that the artist spontaneously placed on the surface of the picture. In the work, Kaprow used elements of his paintings cut into pieces and combined in random order. The artist created the collage at a fast pace, acting in accordance with the “painting of action” method invented by Jackson Pollock. In the late 1950s, Kaprow increasingly used three-dimensional objects, trying to bring painting as close to everyday life as possible; this ultimately became his primary creative goal.
