The late cycle “Angels”, to which this work belongs, consists of more than a dozen paintings, drawings and sketches. Angels of Pavel Kondratiev appear in front of the audience in different guises. In this work, a symbolic image appears against the background of the night sky, the snow-white purity of which sharply contrasts with the gloomy environment. The angel holds a dark object, the origin and meaning of which the viewer can only guess. Working on the painting, the artist used several bright contrasting shades, which testify to his great interest in the role of colour in a work of art.
