Abstract composition

author

Mykhailo Andriienko-Nechytailo

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: the National Museum of Modern Art, G. Pompidou Center, Paris (France).

In his cubist, constructivist and abstract works, Andriienko always felt the powerful rhythm of harmonious geometric figures without “falling into” the formalism of these stylistic systems. This abstract composition indicates the author’s knowledge of such type of cubist abstraction as Orphism. Andriienko did not perceive the desire for the transmission of motion in the method of Sonya and Robert Delaunay. However, he was attracted by the opportunity to convey the depth and, most importantly, to show the harmony of the figures and their proportions. The clear outlines of complex parts that constitute the overall composition make the picture painted in oil similar to graphics.
