XVIII - XX centuries
This style reflects the architects’ desire to bring back classical purity, as opposed to modernity. Neoclassicism was the dominant movement in European architecture in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. However, it has not lost popularity yet: some architects are working in this direction to this day.
Key ideas:
– In neoclassicism, there is no abundance of bright decorative elements that are actively used in the Art Nouveau style.
– Elegance, lightness and simplicity, strict proportions are the main features of architectural structures.
– The predominant colors are light blue and beige.
– Imitation of the Egyptian style.
Famous representatives of the movement: Robert Adam, Karl Friedrich Schinkel, John Nash, Claude Nicola Ledoux, John Soane.
