Oleksandr Murashko
was born on August 26, 1875 in Kyiv.
1875 - 1919
Olexander Murashko was an outstanding Ukrainian artist, a student and nephew of N. I. Murashko, the founder of the Kiev drawing school, a student of I. Repin and A. Azhbe.
Born into the family of a talented woodcarver A. Murashko and Maria Krachkovskaya.
Master of portrait and to a lesser extent landscape painting, who was at the forefront of the organization and the beginning of the functioning of the Art Academy of Ukraine. At the beginning of his career, he worked in a realistic style, close to the principles of the Wanderers, then – in the style of Impressionism. Synthesizing the basic attitudes of Impressionism in addressing the real and the search for modernists in Munich in the field of folk culture, Murashko created a unique style that did not look like any other in artistic Europe of the early 20th century.
Key ideas:
– For A. Murashko it was obvious that no matter how much contemporary an artist is, without the traditions of the old school, he would never really learn to work. Therefore, he relied on a strong academic school with attention to detail in his work. However, in his paintings, the artist soon abandoned excessive details, believing that “little things are not important. The main thing is to see the soul. ”
– Considering that French Impressionism lacks rigor, A. Murashko developed a technique in which strokes were not too chaotic so that the main object was not lost behind the screen of emotions. At the same time, bright vital colors gradually become the author’s technique.
– Studying in Munich, where Art Nouveau dominated at that time, Murashko learned and made the use of wave lines, which are assembled into a single whole, spelled out in details, a part of his own concept. Another key idea perceived from the aesthetic basis of modernism is an appeal to the folk tradition and myths, which was expressed, for example, in the use of motifs of national ornament, national life and history.
