author

David Salle

description

Mediums: oil and acrylic on canvas with electric light and wood table.
Location: the Brant Foundation, Greenwich, Connecticut (the USA).

David Salle drew inspiration for his works from a wide variety of sources: literature, art, or cinema, as was the case with his painting “King Kong”. The name of the film is written in large transparent letters in the middle of the canvas; the rest of the plot is in no way connected with the famous story of the huge monkey monster. The artist depicted two naked women on the beach, moving away from the viewer deep into the painting. The orange-yellow paint covering the entire surface of the canvas evokes the thought of summer sun and heat; a real table with a real lamp standing in front of the picture makes it look like a poster on the wall.
