1983
Mediums: oil, plates, horns and Bondo on wood.
Location: the Guggenheim Museum, New York (the USA).
One of the artist’s famous works, in which Julian Schnabel used broken plates and horns. They are glued to a wooden panel and covered with a thick layer of pigment. The work is a triptych, where the central part is slightly higher and closer to the viewer than the side ones. Broken plates indicate Julian Schnabel’s fascination with art by Antonio Gaudi, who actively used these elements in his works. According to art historians, the monumentality of the composition and its colour scheme refer to the late Baroque aesthetics.
