Eve

author

Aristide Maillol

description

Mediums: bronze.
Location: Musee d’Orsay, Paris (France).

One of the first sculptures of Maillol, when his creations were still more static. The author sought, by his definition, first of all, “the architecture of sustainability” – in this work he finds it visually in support of one leg and the overall balance of the figure. The sculptor used the plot of the original sin: a small apple lies in the hand of ancestress Eve. She is deep in thought as if on the verge of choice. For Maillol, antiquity and biblical images embodied a kind of universal humanistic principle.
