Untitled (Pink Palace)

Location: the Museum of Modern Art (San Francisco, the USA).

The work is a typical Cornell’s wooden box with a glass top, which contains various objects that have a special meaning for the author. There are few such objects in this composition: a copy of the engraving depicting a house, tree branches in the background and artificial snow that flickers and shimmers, reflected in a mirror mounted at the back of the box. If you look closely, you will notice tiny human figures in front of the building, in which some kind of triumph is taking place. A special festive atmosphere reigns in the mysterious world behind glass; the starry night and snow resemble a Christmas fairy tale.
