Song of Love

A plaster bust, a rubber glove pinned by a nail, a green ball on a flat surface; the author named this incomprehensible set of objects “Song of Love”, forcing viewers to puzzle over the true meaning of these objects. Chirico’s approach to reality was formed under the influence of German philosophers, whose work he was fond of in his youth. The artist believed that a constantly changing reality could be expressed only with the help of simple elements, structures and symbols that can hold and preserve it. Such symbols are the objects depicted here; however, their exact meaning has been remaining a mystery.
