Study for Homage to the Square: Beaming

description

Mediums: oil, fiberboard.
Location: The Tate Gallery (London, the UK).

The picture from the most famous and numerous “Homage to the Square” series consists of three squares placed in each other, made with oil paints. They have different shades of the blue and green palette and have an offset to the bottom, which creates a visual effect of movement in this direction. Like in other paintings of this series, the artist carefully studies the interaction of colours between each other, improving their shades, tones and intensity in order to explore optical effects. He also paid close attention to the psychological influence of such optical illusions on the viewer and, based on his observations, improved his work.
