Briefly about the picture:
One of the paintings donated by Ksenia Pougny in 1966, this still life was painted in the last year of the artist’s stay in Berlin, when he condemned Suprematism, including his own, and then followed a more realistic style of painting. An increasing role in it was assigned to an exquisite game of color planes, spatial plans, the diverse development of the texture of the surface. At the same time, having labeled objectless design as “thousands of combinations from one circle and a pair of squares,” Pougny created paintings close to Cubofuturistic, adding to them expressive work shadows, but leaving a large proportion of flatness and unexpected angles.
